Student's experience guides career choice By Destin Davis, The Saline Courier Just a few years ago, Kileigh Diaz, a 12th-grade student a Bryant High School, thought her life had changed for the worst. Kileigh was in a life-changing side-by-side accident. "I flipped 10 times, then dropped off a ravine 40 feet, had no control of the lower party of my body, collapsed two lungs, broke every rib, broke my back and two bones in my neck," Kileigh said. She spent four months in Arkansas Children's Hospital recovering, wondering if her life would ever be the same again. During her recovery, she received the help of certified nursing assistants and nurses along with other medical professionals. She would later use this experiences to guide her choices for a future career. "Now I have rods and screws in my back, so from that I had to learn how to walk and eat and use the bathroom, along with that CNAS were with me every single step of the way. It made me think I could connect to a lot of people this way," Kileigh stated. 10 Kileigh Diaz It was through this struggle, Kileigh found her calling in life to become a nurse and help people going through struggles like hers. Through a tragic accident Kileigh was able to find direction in her life. "It honestly put me in a better place. People ask me all the time do I regret it, I don't, I'm glad this happened to me, it was more of a wake up call for me that drove me to my career." Because of the new Saline County Career Technical Center, Kileigh has been able start this step in her career. while finishing high school at the same time.
